Samuel
E. Adunyah is Professor and Chair of Biochemistry
at MMC. He received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University
of Louisville followed by postdoctoral research training at the
University of New Mexico and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
After serving as a faculty member at Alabama for one year, he was
appointed as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at MMC in 1991.
Dr. Adyunyah's laboratory has attracted
independent funding since 1992, primarily from the NCI. Dr. Adunyah
has published over thirty full papers in peer reviewed journals.
In addition, he has published and presented over forty abstracts
in domestic and international scientific meetings. A majority of
these presentations were at AACR meetings.
Dr. Adunyah has been active in the training of minority graduate
students who have had successful records in obtaining competitive
postdoctoral research or industry positions.
Dr. Adunyah served as the chairman of the biochemistry department
at Meharry from April 1998 to June 2005 and is currently
chairman of the MMC Cancer Biology Division. He has managed several
external grants including the current NCI supplement for the MMC/VICC
Alliance. He also manages a T32 Training grant from the NHLBI,
which totals about one million dollars. During the 1999/2000 academic
year, he served as the chairman of the council of basic science
chairs, which was appointed by the dean of School of Medicine.
