NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use on December 11, and mass distribution has already begun. Meharry Medical College (MMC) President and CEO James E.K. Hildreth, PhD, MD serves on the FDA Advisory Committee, and he appeared on the TODAY Show days before that happened to discuss the approval process and stress the importance of clear communication about the vaccine's effectiveness and safety.  

NASHVILLE, Tenn. “If I wasn’t helping someone, I wasn’t living my days.” That mantra directed Trina Taglialavore – the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance’s (MVA) new Executive Assistant – at crucial moments in her life. One moment was the birth of her daughter. Another was the death of her mother. “I realized what was important and what wasn’t,” Taglialavore recalled. “There were a lot of things before that seemed important but weren’t.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Mavis Schorn, PhD, APRN, CNM, CNE, FACNM, FAAN, FNAP served with the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance’s (MVA) Interprofessional Education and Inter-Institutional Collaborative Learning (IPE) program for almost nine years. She was Director and Co-Director during the last four. Earlier in 2020, she stepped away from the program.

Karen Winkfield, MD, PhD, associate professor of Radiation Oncology at Wake Forest University, associate director for Community Outreach and Engagement, and director of the Office of Cancer Health Equity at Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named the new executive director of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance. She will begin Nov. 1.
