Black Male Summit

Black Male Summit

Navigating the Pre-Health Path: A Summit for Young Black Men Interested in the Health Professions took place October 1 at Meharry’s S.S. Kresge Learning Resource Center. The summit was aimed at middle school-aged through undergraduate students to expose them to careers in the health field and inform them about available resources. The day started with the young men listening to the inspiring stories of Dr. André Churchwell, Chief Diversity Officer of Vanderbilt University, and Dr. James Hildreth, President and CEO of Meharry Medical College. After the motivational start, the day continued with tons of valuable information about the student experience, admissions, financial aid, and interview and resume prep. The young men also had the opportunity to interact with students who are currently in graduate level health programs over lunch. Not only did many of the young men walk away with prizes like laptops and school supplies, they left with plenty of relevant information and the belief that a career in health can and will be in their future.
