MVA hosts Summer Program for Integrative Science and Cancer Research Symposium

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance hosted a symposium for the Summer Program for Integrative Science and Cancer Research Friday morning. Several mentors attended, presenting their findings from various research projects.

The Summer Program's primary objectives include identifying and selecting first-year medical students with a strong research interest in biomedical, clinical or epidemiologic aspects of cancer, then matching those students with experienced cancer researchers in an area of shared interest. It facilitates and enhances this short-term exposure through weekly interactions with Meharry Medical College faculty involved in cancer research to reinforce fundamental aspects, provides a venue for the dissemination of student research findings among student peers and cancer research at the conclusion of the summer and advises and mentors the selected students through the residency match selection process to encourage their identification of research-linked residencies.
