Todd - Brown Heritage Lecture Medical Grand Rounds scheduled Feb. 17

NASHVILLE, Tenn. On Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Department of Internal Medicine and P. Renee Brown Obi, M.D.’84 will present the Todd - Brown Heritage Lecture Medical Grand Rounds at the Kresge Learning Resource Center from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. The lecture, titled “JNC-8 vs SPRINT: What Should Be the Blood Pressure Target in Black Hypertensive Patients?” will be held in Lecture Hall 1.

Jackson Wright, M.D., Ph.D. is the featured speaker. Wright is Program Director for the William T. Dahms Clinical Research Unit and director of the Clinical Hypertension Program at University Hospital Case Medical Center (UHCMC). He is also a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Objectives at the lecture include the following:

  • Discuss the evidence supporting recommendations in place on blood pressure control prior the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT)
  • Explain the objectives of the SPRINT
  • Interpret the major findings of the Trial
  • Describe the implications of the SPRINT findings on the management of hypertensive patients, particularly older hypertensive patients
