NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Cayce community in Nashville is burdened with one of the highest asthma rates in Davidson County, Tennessee. Poor air quality is a potent asthma trigger.

With funding from the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance 15-Year Anniversary Grant, HIDE formed a partnership with Meharry Medical College, Tennessee State University and community members to investigate both indoor and outdoor environmental exposures.

The partnership collected outdoor air samples in and around the Cayce community.

Since 1999, Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University have been working together to build a bridge across institutions to advance clinical and community-engaged collaboration, education and research.

HIDE is dedicated to addressing respiratory health disparities in vulnerable populations by providing education and research-base solutions.
