NASHVILLE, Tenn. Since 1999, Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University have been working together to build a bridge across institutions to advance clinical and community-engaged collaboration, education and research. In celebration of 15 years of partnership, the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance awarded grants to support partnerships between community organizations and academic researchers.

Through the 15-year anniversary grants, the MVA supported Julie's Village in building a partnership with a researcher at Vanderbilt University. The long-term goal of the partnership is to improve community health outcomes by using research to enhance the effectiveness of the prenatal, breastfeeding preparedness education and training offered by Julie's Village.

The MVA grant Julie's Village received allowed them to partner and work together towards their common goal of educating women about breastfeeding.

Julie's Village reduces barriers to breastfeeding by filling a huge gap in prenatal, breastfeeding preparedness education.
