#WeBelieve Campaign & Rally scheduled Aug. 22

NASHVILLE, Tenn. On Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Meharry Amphitheater (21st Avenue between Albion and Meharry Boulevard), the Delta Chapter Omegas and the Meharry Chapter of the NAACP will present the #WeBelieve Campaign & Rally. Organizers are asking all Meharrians, Vanderbilt University Medical Center staff and students to participate in the effort to fight for African American achievement by starting in the minds of black youth.

"We believe that it is unacceptable that over 85 percent of black males are not reading at proficiency level by the end of the third grade and that only 1,300 African American males applied to medical school in 2014," Joseph Claiborne, an organizer of the upcoming rally stated in a press release. "We believe in better for our African American males. We believe that these young men possess creative minds to be problem-solvers and not problem-makers.

"As Meharrians," he continued, "we believe we will be able to nurture these young minds to be the leaders in the community to change their neighborhoods, this country and the world. We believe because it is through the worship of God through the service of mankind that allows us to believe."
