Medical Grand Rounds continues with 'The Management and Treatment of Patients with Polycythemia Vera (PV)'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. On Wednesday, April 20, the Department of Internal Medicine once again presents Medical Grand Rounds, with “The Management and Treatment of Patients with Polycythemia Vera (PV).” Naval Gustad Daver, MD is the featured speaker.

Daver is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center's Division of Cancer Medicine, Department of Leukemia in Houston.

The lecture will be held at the S. S. Kresge Learning Resource Center in Lecture Hall 1 at 12:10 p.m.

 

Objectives

  1. Identify the most common presenting characteristics of patients with PV prior to diagnosis
  2. Compare strengths and weaknesses of diagnostic criteria published by consensus groups for patients with PV
  3. Analyze the potential effectiveness and side effect profiles for second-line treatment options used in patients with PV who are either intolerant or refractory to hydroxyurea
  4. Identify risk factors for progression to post-PV MF, as well as prognostic variables that may impact overall survival once progression occurs
