NASHVILLE, Tenn. Wednesday of Inauguration Week at Meharry Medical College focused on "Engaging the Community for Men's Health: Transforming Health Care."

The event, held at the Cal Turner Student Family Center for Student Education, featured a roundtable discussion with guest speaker Dr. Kevin Billups from the Johns Hopkins Medical Center and moderator Dr. Derek Griffith from Vanderbilt University. The roundtable panelists included Dr. Lawrence Burns, Dr. Arthur Lee, Dr. Mitchell Parks, the Rev. Edwin Sanders, Dr. Paul Juarez, Kenneth Mitchell and Dr. Kenneth Robinson.

Topics ranged from cardiovascular health and obesity to testosterone and prostate exams. Panelists said a paradigm shift was needed in American health, and immediate action was required.

Griffith said Meharry has a great opportunity to do just that -- change the paradigm of healthcare -- with upcoming programs.

When asked how to begin addressing cardiovascular issues in young men, rather than just the elderly, panelists said people will need to collaborate and educate at an early age.
