MVA holds Walking Wednesday

The importance of physical fitness, doctors say, cannot be emphasized enough. Physical activity is essential to prevent and reduce the risks of many diseases and improve physical and mental health.
With that in mind, the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance once again kicked off Walking Wednesday, a campus- and community-wide wellness program, last week. Walkers met at the Alliance office on 1999 Meharry Blvd. at noon and followed pre-planned routes around the surrounding campuses.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Melody S. Goodman, MS, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Division of Public Health Sciences Department of Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, visited the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance Tuesday to present a lecture titled “Increasing Community Capacity to Partner in Health Disparities Research.”
Jerica Woods joins Alliance as newest intern

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Jerica Woods, an intern from Middle Tennessee State University, started her internship with the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance this week.
Woods, who graduated earlier this year, majored in Health Education, with a concentration in community and public health. When asked what drove her to that field of study, she said, “I just feel like health is everywhere. I just felt like the community needed people like me to keep everyone healthy and happy.”

Wilkins, MD, MCSI and 15 other members have been appointed to a new faculty task force created to prioritize and refine the eight health-related initiatives in the Academic Strategic Plan and to inventory existing health-related interdisciplinary centers and institutes at Vanderbilt.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Alexis Holman has a genuine interest in health and improving the well-being of others. That interest is what led her to study Health Education at Middle Tennessee State University. When asked what her plans are after graduation, Holman said she hopes to work in research and enroll in a graduate program within a year.
